The Kingdom Way
• David Robbins • Series: The Kingdom of God
Following Jesus means surrendering our expectations and embracing God’s redemptive way. The Kingdom of Heaven operates very differently from the world’s way. The disciples expected a conquering Messiah, but Jesus came with a mission of redemption. When Peter resisted the idea of Christ’s suffering, Jesus corrected him—because a wrong view of Messiahship leads to a wrong view of discipleship. We are called to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him (Mark 8:34). Suffering is part of entering the Kingdom (Romans 8:17); even Jesus learned obedience through what He suffered (Hebrews 5:8).
